A Brighter Future for Children and Youth: The Women's Division offers grants of up to $4,000 for projects and programs addressing the needs of children and young people between the ages of 5 to 18 in the areas of violence prevention, anti-abuse and relationship abuse.  Preference is given to projects that have significant involvement of women and youth at the grassroots level, provide direct and comprehensive services to young people and promote respect for and appreciation of racial and ethnic diversity and cultivate spiritual lives and values.

Type of Funding/Funding Restrictions: 

The Brighter Future grants are non-renewable and are for small-scale, community and church-based programs and projects.  Building improvements, computer hardware, one-time events or summer events and activities are not eligible for funding.  Projects should demonstrate the ability to raise additional funds from other sources.

Mission/Giving Statement:  The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy.

Grantmaking Program Areas:  Quality of Life Grants

Quality of Life Grants:  The Foundation awards grants to programs or projects that improve the daily lives of people with paralysis.  The Quality of Life Grants are broken down into three broad categories: Actively Achieving; Bridging Barriers; and Caring and Coping.

Actively Achieving: Projects enable people with paralysis to get out and live - ride a bike, compete in sports, climb a mountain, hike a trail, train for a job, play with friends on a totally accessible playground, work out in a fitness program and much more.

Bridging Barriers:  Projects help people with paralysis to overcome obstacles to full participation in society - operate voice-activated computer technology, modify homes and buildings to make them wheelchair accessible, help with legal problems, access transportation services, and more.

Caring and Coping: Projects help take care of both the individuals with paralysis and the people that care for them - caregiver support and respite, peer networks, support groups, counseling, consumer and healthcare professional educational conferences, specialized training for healthcare professionals and more. 

Type of Funding/Funding Restrictions:  Funding is awarded twice yearly.  Multiple year grants are not awarded.  The Foundation gives special consideration to organizations that serve returning wounded military and their families, and to those that provide targeted services to diverse cultural communities.  The Foundation does not make grants to individuals.
