Mission/Giving Statement:  The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy.

Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:

Quality of Life Grants:  This program was conceived by the late Dana Reeve to address the myriad needs of children and adults with paralysis and other mobility impairments and their families. Grants are awarded twice yearly to nonprofit organizations that provide critical life-enhancing and life-changing programs and services that improve physical and emotional health and increase independence. Funded projects offer a diversity of services and approaches: improving access; providing education and job training; sponsoring organized sporting opportunities; and much more. Quality of Life grants are funded through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award Number 1U59DD000838-01).

Type of Funding/Funding Restrictions:  Funding is awarded twice yearly.  Multiple year grants are not awarded.  The Foundation gives special consideration to organizations that serve returning wounded military and their families, and to those that provide targeted services to diverse cultural communities.  The Foundation does not make grants to individuals.

Senior Corps: Senior Corps connects today's over 55s with the people and organizations that need them most. The Corporation helps them become mentors, coaches or companions to people in need, or contribute their job skills and expertise to community projects and organizations.

AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps offers 75,000 opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups. AmeriCorps members can tutor and mentor disadvantaged youth, fight illiteracy, improve health services, build affordable housing, teach computer skills, clean parks and streams, manage or operate after-school programs, help communities respond to disaster or build organizational capacity.

Learn & Serve America: Learn & Serve America supports and encourages service-learning throughout the United States, and enables over one million students to make meaningful contributions to their community while building their academic and civic skills. Learn and Serve America provides direct and indirect support to K-12 schools, community groups and higher education institutions to facilitate service learning projects.

Type of Funding/Funding Restrictions: The Corporation for National and Community Service provides grants to national and local nonprofits, schools, government agencies, faith-based and other community organizations and groups committed to strengthening their communities through volunteering. See individual grants for eligibility and restrictions.  

Application Instructions: The Corporation requires that all applicants submit applications electronically via its web-based application system, eGrants. Applicants are also encouraged to submit a Notice of Intent to Apply via email prior to submitting an application; further instructions are included on the particular funding opportunity announcement. Please note, applications must include a Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number and register with the Central Contractor’s Registry (CCR). It is suggested that this be completed at least 30 days in advance of the application due date.
