The Healthy Living Grant Program supports grassroots health education programs to develop school and community-based solutions to behavioral health challenges.

Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:

Disaster Assistance Grant Program:  Provides financial assistance to dentists affected by devastation caused by natural disaster; like Hurricane Sandy.

Relief Grant Program:  Provide financial assistance to dentists and their dependents who, because of accidental injury, a medical condition, disability or advanced age, are unable to meet basic living expenses.

Samuel Harris Fund for Children's Detal Health Grants Program:  Grants of up to $5,000 each are offered to non-profit organizations and agencies that sponsor oral health instruction for mothers/caregivers to help reduce the incidence of early childhood caries.

Give Kids A Smile Grants: Dentists and other team members volunteer their time, and services, to provide screenings, treatments and education to children throughout the United States. Each year, approximately 450,000 children benefit from more than 1500 events, all because of the efforts of 40,000 or more  annual volunteers. Mission/Giving Statement: Advocates for children’s oral health, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry  promotes evidence-based policies and clinical guidelines; educates and informs policymakers, parents and guardians, and other health care professionals; fosters research; and provides continuing professional education for pediatric dentists and general dentists who treat children. Also, supports: Service, Education, and Research that advances the oral health of infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs.

Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:

Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children: Provides matching grants of up to $20,000 to community-based organizations providing dental care services to underserved kids. Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children will explore its options for expanding our Access to Care initiatives to include multi-year grants to strengthen our impact on the access and underutilization oral health challenges facing U.S. children.

Mission/Giving Statement: To support programs for the education and training of mothers during pregnancy and after the birth of their children, so that good nutritional habits can be formed at an early age. To assist in the training of persons to work as educators and demonstrators of good nutritional practices. To encourage the dissemination of information regarding healthful nutritional practices and habits. In limited situations to make grants to help solve immediate emergency hunger and malnutrition problems.

Arts & Culture: We work with organizations that use technology to change for the better the way individuals work and live.

Type of Funding/ Funding Restrictions: Must serve communities in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Florida. Oregon. Georgia. Texas or Pennsylvania; howvever can be an online or national program. Must be a U.S. registered 501(c)(3) non-profit orginzation or an NCES school or school district.

Grantmaking Program Areas: Access to Health Care; Science Education; Develpoment of Communities

Grantmaking Program Area Description: 

Access to Health Care: To address this issue by designing, partnering on and implementing innovative programs to expand access to health care services for the world's most disadvantaged populations, by training doctors, building facilities in underserved areas or engaging in other locally appropriate initiatives.

Science Education: Serving as a catalyst by stimulating community investment and engagement. Engages and inspires students, families and teachers in scientific exploration in out-of-school informal settings. Encourages young people to be more proficient in science and attracts more scientists to the field. Builds strong partnerships that are systemic, replicable and sustainable for multiple years and multiple locations.

Development of Communities: Healthy communities possess vibrant and diverse institutions that serve the public good. These institutions range from health and human welfare agencies such as food banks, homeless shelters and health clinics to museums, libraries and universities. The Abbott Fund supports creative programs that address unmet needs of local communities. When natural disasters and emergencies strike communities, the Abbott Fund responds with Grants to trusted humanitarian relief partners. Grants are directed to both immediate needs and longer-term reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.

Mission/Giving Statement: The purposes of the J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation are to aid Chrisitan religious organizations, charitable organizations, institutions of higher learning, hospitals and other organizations of a general charitable nature.
